Captain’s Log

Let me start by thanking you all on what, for me, has been a fantastic season. Sure we didn't make the finals, but at the end of the day we are there to enjoy our cricket and each others company, and you can bet your arse that when you take a look back at the season that was 2006/2007, we most certainly achieved that.

This season brought about a new era for Kwaapoc in that we pushed very hard to have a second team playing under the club’s banner. Unfortunately that didn't materialise and it provided us with quite a large roster for our team. You all displayed great character in the support that you provided me given that we had to rotate so many players for so few positions. For this support, I thank you. It was in many ways great to have so much reserve stock, but it also hindered us in that it was difficult for players to get a regular crack and build some consistency.

In so far as long term forecasting is concerned, it does show that the club is experiencing a fantastic level of growth and expansion that everyone has the opportunity to benefit from and play an active roll in. A club is only as strong as its members. Take a look around you and at your team mates and you will see without doubt that this is most certainly a strong club that wants to grow and build to be an even bigger force.

A second team is our goal for the next season and it is a goal that is easily achievable if everyone combines our collective networks to harness new players. We already have more guys that want to join us. If any of you know or have any mates that want to have a crack and play under the banner of Kwaapoc, then bring them on. They will most certainly be welcome.

There were some outstanding moments that I will take away from this season. To list all the fantastic individual performances that contributed enormously to the club would be impossible. I would especially like to thank Joe for the tireless and exceptional work that he has done in seeing to the administration of the club. It is a thankless job that is done behind the scenes and allows us to do what we love, which is play cricket. Also to our guys that played their first season with Kwaapoc, you performed excellently and each and every one of you pushed yourselves and improved enormously throughout the course of the season. I can personally call on many examples of where each of you had moments that you shined and stamped your presence on the game. To the old guard you all did yourselves proud once more and conducted yourselves impeccably throughout the season.

To have played with all of you has been terrific. To have captained the team has been an honour and a privilege. I hope I will be fortunate enough to be allowed to continue to do so for many a seasons to come. It was not easy at times, but every time we played I always felt that I could count on each and every one of you and I have the utmost confidence in everyman in our club. You have displayed great qualities in the way that you have conducted yourselves on and off the field. It has made me proud to know and play with each and everyone of you. Other clubs that we have played against don't have a quarter of the Ticker that you guys have and I wouldn't be playing for any other club in the competition for all the Porn in Amsterdam! For we have something that if you could bottle we would make millions.

Next season is going to be a cracker! The challenge is there! Take it; it’s yours! Great moments come from great opportunities. Our opportunities will be there and I hope every one of you will join me in taking them.

Yours in Cricket.

Paul Sullivan (Proud, Thirsty, Captain of Kwaapoc)
