2001/2002 Player of the Year

The winner of the KWAAPOC 2001/02 Player
of the Year Award was Joe Zaccheo.

I scored the second highest runs accumulating
432 at an average of 33.23 with 2 x 50’s and
1 x 100. One of the 50’s and the 100 were scored
in the final v the NSW Tamils and went a long to
securing our magnificent win. Greg topped the
scoring with 465.

I also topped the bowling statistics with 45 wickets.
This equalled the 7th division record as it stood til
last season. The average was a very respectable 11.56.

It was an honour to win the Award ahead of Greg
Giannini. Not only did he establish himself as our
best batsmen by consistently scoring runs, but he also

took an amazing 39 catches. That record will take some beating.

The key to our success was our depth especially
in the bowling. We had 3 players take more than 30
wickets when the previous season’s best was 25.
We also had 5 players score over 250 runs all
having an average of over 20. Noel had a great
year scoring 4 x 50’s and being an early contender.
Our fielding was excellent, taking 116 catches and
effecting 11 run outs. Both up on last year.

Looking back, I think winning the Minor
Premiership and also the Grand Final was a
fair result. We were definitely the best team.

It was as a privilege to captain KWAAPOC and
an honour to be chosen as Player of the Year by
my peers.

It really turned out to be a great year when our first born arrived in August 2002, Nicholas
John Zaccheo. This award is dedicated to him and my wife Maria.

Thank you all!
