Welcome to the 1st annual KWAAPOC Presentation night and Annual Report presentation.
I know you’ve heard me say this before, but I would like to say it one more time. It has been
an absolute pleasure to manage KWAAPOC for all of you this year. I mean this from the heart.
It has been one of the most enjoyable things that I have done. Remember, this is your team;
I just run it on your behalf.
I have been paid a number of compliments this year which is very humbling. But one the best
compliments was from an ex-team member who dropped out of the team towards the end of the
season. It wasn’t directed to me personally, but to a mutual acquaintance. Paraphrasing, he said,
"Joe runs the team like an under 10’s team, he gives everyone a bowl". This was exactly my intentions,
and it’s rewarding to know that some think that I have achieved this. For next year I plan on being
even fairer and giving everyone a go as much as possible.
On the field there have been some great performers. Tim, Gray and David all scoring 100’s and Sam
and Wayne taking 5 wickets in an innings. There was also some great fielding and catches, particularly
in the first game v Manihiki and the 2nd game v Concord West. Catches from Michael Chertok, Peter,
Gray, Sam, David were some of the standouts.
Mohammed finished with the most wickets with 25. This particularly pleasing considering the lean
year he had in terms of opportunities last year.
I, Joe, ended up with most runs with 413 and Greg with the best average of 30.56 (other than David
Wilson on 90.33).
It has been pleasing to see some real improvers in the team. Michael Chertok with his batting. And
my award for most improved player of the year goes to Rustum for his bowling in particular.
But most pleasing is the off field contribution by all. Everyone chipped in with spells of umpiring
and scoring, packing the kit and countless other tasks. Thanks to Michael Russell for his scoring.
His enthusiasm was appreciated by all.
Training was another success. Out of the 50 plus teams in our district, only a handful actually have
regular training. I know this was of value and thanks to the regulars. Thanks to Sam for taking the kit
and being the first one there.
Thanks to Gray, John and Sam for attending the judiciary hearings and association meetings.
Thanks to Noel and Gray for assisting initially with some gear, and everyone for sharing there personal
gear around. We will have a complete kit next year.
Thanks to the ladies of KWAAPOC especially my wife, Maria, for there efforts, support and patience.
Lastly, Maria and I would like to thank you for your wonderful gift. It was totally unnecessary, but
appreciated. We will let you know how it was.
I know I’ve left something or someone out, but thank you to all, it is appreciated by all.
I take great pleasure in submitting this document for your perusal. It’s amateur in presentation, but hopefully
the information is reasonably clear and interesting.
SEE YOU ALL NEXT SEASON!
