About KWAAPOC

KWAAPOC is an acronym for Kepler Wessels And A Plate Of Chips. Sometime in April 2000, Gray
Charlton suggested that we start our own team after asking him if he would play next season with
me for Summer Hill. I had just completed my second season with them and wanted to find enough
players to start a third men's team for the following season of which I would lead. There were a
couple of reasons for wanting to do this, none of which really matter now.

His suggestion sounded absurd at first. I knew he was serious however, when he'd sent an e-mail
and received several favourable replies from potential players. They were, Matthew Galligan, Tim
Tribe, Dave Kowal, David Wilson, Michael Jones and Damian Lynch. You added to that Gray and
myself, and at least two players I had played with at Summer Hill, and that was already 10.

I was 90% sure that it would happen. I contacted the (C&WSCA) association and guys like Garry
Peats and Geoff McKenzie really helped us in getting off the ground. There was alot of behind
the scenes work with finances, gear, balls administration, e-mails, registrations and phone calls.

I wanted this team to be a fun experience for everyone. I wanted everyone to bowl as well as bat.
I organised little social events and always tried to be upbeat and optimistic, not focusing on
    the performances all that much.

That first season was a success, narrowly missing out on the final. In just our second season we went
all the way winning the minor premiership and the grand final. Our third ended losing the grand final.

We started some traditions along the way. The annual presentation night with the player of the
year award, the KWAAPOC golf day and footy day, the KWAAPOC sign and of course the annual
KWAAPOC BBQ where the chicken souvlakia are the stars of the show.

We hold annual AGM's in July where players can have a say in the club's philosophy and direction.
There is an on-line registration facility for new players. KWAAPOC is still looking for its first
major sponsor. It hopes to use its name, logo and the website to generate additional money by
providing quality exposure to potential sponsors.

In 2005, the club incorporated and is now officially known as Tasker Park Cricket Club Inc.
This new structure protects all those involved from the savages of litigation. Prior to the
incorporated association, those involved in organising the clubs activities could have been
personally liable for any injury sustained by a player, property damaged, injury of a non-participant
    and the list goes on.

Under the new structure, we are all protected from the National Club Insurance Program that Cricket
Australia has negotiated on behalf of cricket clubs with insurer JLT Sport. Through this arrangement all cricket
clubs have access to comprehensive insurance coverage, from the spectator to the committee member.

The name change to something more mainstream allows the club to expand at a later date if it so wishes
without the pub connotations of “Kepler Wessels And A Plate Of Chips”.
